Saudi Arabia’s Skilled Games and Esports Delegation Engages in Productive Visit to Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu

Saudi Esports Federation and Savvy Games Group Lead Business Delegation to China

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, and Brian Ward, CEO of Savvy Games Group (Savvy), recently headed a senior business delegation to China. They were joined by leaders from VSPO, a leading Chinese esports company. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen partnerships in China’s games and esports industry and enhance the collaboration between China and Saudi Arabia, which aims to become a global hub for gaming and esports.

Investment in VSPO

In 2023, Savvy, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, invested $265 million in VSPO, making it the largest international investor in the company. This long-term investment supports VSPO’s global strategy and the growth of mobile esports.

Preparations for the Esports World Cup

The delegation also discussed preparations for the inaugural Esports World Cup, scheduled to take place in Riyadh in the summer of 2024.

Positive Outlook for Collaboration

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, Vice Chair of Savvy Games Group, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that they aim to build Saudi Arabia into a global esports and gaming market hub. Brian Ward, CEO of Savvy Games Group, emphasized the valuable role the Chinese market plays in supporting Saudi Arabia’s gaming and esports sector. Dino Ying, Chair of VSPO, highlighted the shared vision and friendship between both parties, expressing confidence in future innovation together.
