World Esports Academia Seminar to be Held in Busan

The International Esports Federation (IESF) will be hosting the World Esports Academia Seminar in Busan on November 28-29, 2023. This two-day event will focus on the theme of “Socio-cultural challenges in the World of Esports Education” and aims to foster the development of the global esports industry through academic knowledge and research.

Keynote Speeches and Panel Discussions

The seminar will feature keynote speeches from esteemed members of the World Esports Family, including Mario Andrés Agudelo Padilla, esports professor at Del Rosario University; Peichi Chung, professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Diana Tjong, Chair of IESF Equity Committee; Gerald Solomon, Executive Director of NASEF, and more.

Gerald Solomon, NASEF Executive Director and Chair of IESF’s Education Committee, expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “IESF could not be more excited to host the World Esports Academia Seminar once again. Together with esports stakeholders from all corners of the world, we will revitalize the relationship between esports researchers and educators. This year’s theme will inspire us all to think outside of the box and unite the World Esports Family. We look forward to the insightful discussions that will take place in Busan.”

Day 1 and Day 2 Activities

The first day of the seminar will consist of four keynote speeches representing different regions around the world. It will conclude with a panel discussion titled “How Can IESF’s Approach to Esports Competition and Education Be Socially and Culturally Sensitive to Global Differences,” moderated by Gerald Solomon with panelists Mario Andrés Agudelo Padilla, James Fraser-Murison, and more.

The second day will include four workshops focusing on the value of esports education, diversity, equity, and inclusion. These workshops will address topics such as integrating competition, learning, and career development; advancing equity and inclusion in esports; addressing disparities in esports opportunities, and creating a safe and inclusive esports environment.

IESF’s Commitment to Education

The IESF continues to prioritize education as a means to unite the World Esports Family and contribute to the growth and development of the industry. In addition to the World Esports Academia Seminar, IESF has recently announced the details for the third annual WE Academia Competition, which invites members of the World Esports Family to submit research papers on the subjects of “Esports Toxicity: The Challenge, Evidence, and Solutions” and “Managing Harassment in Esports – The Role of Accountability and Standards to Address the Harassment.”
