ITIA Suspends Two Players Due to Corruption Linked to Belgian Syndicate

The International Tennis Integrity Agency has banned two players for corruption

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) recently taken strong action against two tennis players who were involved in corrupt operations linked to a Belgian syndicate.

Alejandro Mendoza Crespo received harsh consequences, receiving the maximum penalty of a lifetime suspension from tennis for his involvement in 20 corruption-related violations. Jorge Panta Herreros, on the other hand, was suspended for three years due to four violations.

Sanctions imposed by ITIA

The sanctions were imposed by Professor Richard McLaren, an independent anti-corruption hearing officer, during a formal hearing in early March. Both players’ suspensions began on April 4.

Aside from the bans, Mendoza and Panta were fined $250,000 and $10,000, respectively. They are not only prohibited from competing in ITIA-run tennis contests, such as the ATP and WTA, but also from teaching or visiting such events.
