WeSave! Charity Play Raises Over $143,000 for Coronavirus Relief
The second day of WeSave! Charity Play is coming to a close, with three teams eliminated from the tournament. WePlay! has now announced the first of several donation milestones for the Dota 2 event, which aims to raise awareness and fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, WePlay! and the Dota community have raised over $23,000 within two days of competition, bringing the total funds raised to $143,630. This impressive amount shows the dedication and support from the community, with four more days of the charity event to go.
Live Donation Tracker and Incentives
Previously, there were no incentives for people who donated, aside from knowing their money would go to important causes like the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and GlobalGiving. However, a live donation tracker is now available to showcase how much the community has exceeded the initial $120,000 prize pool. Additionally, there are incentives for viewers watching from home.
The first incentive will be unlocked at $150,000, featuring a cross-region final on March 26 between the winning team from Europe and the CIS region. There are four more milestone slots to be revealed once the first goal is met.
Multiple Donation Channels
Viewers have multiple options to donate, including Twitch and WePlay!’s own donation link. WePlay! has also introduced the option to donate using Twitch Bits, where they will contribute an additional $0.01 to the prize fund for every Bit spent on their official Twitch channels. Those who choose to donate directly through the WePlay! website will not need to provide any additional information outside of what is already listed on the donation form. After successfully donating, participants can download a certificate confirming their participation in WeSave! Charity Play.
With the event running until March 26, there is still time to make a donation and help the community reach the next incentive.
