Vikin.gg and Tobi go separate ways

Tobi Departs Vikin.gg after Impressive Stint

Austrian player Tobias “Tobi” Buchner will no longer be playing Dota 2 under the Vikin.gg banner, the organization announced today.

Tobi’s departure marks the end of his 14-month journey with Vikin.gg. The team had a remarkable run in 2020, winning 10 tournaments including the Dota Summit 13 in November, where they triumphed over Team Liquid. They established themselves as a dark horse contender in the highly competitive European region, and even qualified for the upper division of the first DPC Regional League in January.

Unfortunately, Vikin.gg couldn’t retain their upper division status despite their remarkable victories against OG and Team Nigma. The team is now relegated to the lower division for the second season of the Regional League, with only a slim chance of qualifying for The International through a regional qualifier at the end of the competition.

Seleri, the captain of Vikin.gg and Tobi’s long-time teammate, posted a heartfelt farewell message to the departing off laner, acknowledging that they had achieved more than expected.

The team is likely to move forward with KheZu, who has been playing in Tobi’s position since mid-February. KheZu has already participated in all of Vikin.gg’s matches in the DPC and the ongoing Snow Sweet Snow tournament.
