VGJ Thunder secure a spot in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit final top 8

All Teams Set for The International 8

The gates have officially closed for The International 8 qualifiers, as the top eight slots in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit leaderboard are now secured by their respective teams. Virtus Pro secured their spot after defeating OpTic Gaming at the China Dota 2 Supermajor in Shanghai.

The Russians dominated OpTic and are guaranteed to earn 337 more Pro Circuit points, even if they lose to PSG-LGD in the lower bracket final. Virtus Pro’s outstanding performance throughout the season makes it highly likely for them to appear in the grand finals on Sunday.

Following Virtus Pro and PSG-LGD are the defending TI champions, Team Liquid. Despite not winning a Major this season, Team Liquid’s consistency has earned them a spot in the top eight. They are ready to defend their title in Vancouver.

Team Secret and Mineski are also among the top eight teams. Team Secret’s success in several events this season, including winning the DreamLeague Season Eight Major, has earned them a significant number of points. Mineski, on the other hand, had a rough midseason but recovered at the Dota 2 Asia Championships to secure their position in the leaderboard.

The remaining three spots are held by Chinese teams: Vici Gaming, Newbee, and VGJ Thunder. Vici Gaming’s second-place finishes in three events, including ESL One Katowice, secured their position. Newbee, despite their early lead with first-place finishes in the AMD Sapphire Dota Pit League and ESL One Genting, fell off later in the season. Lastly, VGJ Thunder’s three silver medals were just enough to secure them a spot in Vancouver.

The open qualifiers for each region will begin on June 14, featuring fan-favorite squads like Evil Geniuses and OG. With such strong teams in the mix, the open qualifiers are expected to be highly competitive.
