Valve Updates Dota 2 Pro Circuit Points System
Valve has made changes to the Dota 2 Pro Circuit points system for the upcoming 2018 to 2019 season. There will be five Majors and five Minors leading up to The International tournament. The first Minor event will take place in October, followed by the first Major in Malaysia from November 9 to 18.
The new points system rewards teams, not individual players. If a player switches teams, their points will not transfer with them, as Valve stated on Dota 2’s FAQ page. Each of the 16 teams in the Major and eight teams in the Minor will earn points. Majors are worth 15,000 points and Minors are worth 500. The number of points for Majors increases linearly with prize pools over $1 million. You can find a detailed breakdown on Dota 2’s website.
Direct Invites and Regional Events
The top twelve teams with the highest points will receive direct invites to The International 2019, while other teams will have to qualify through regional events. Each region is guaranteed a minimum of two teams for Majors and one team for Minors.
Qualifying through Minors
Teams can also qualify for Majors by winning the preceding Minor event. The winning team will earn either the DPC points for their victory or their placement in the Major, whichever is greater.
Tickets for the Kuala Lumpur Dota 2 Major are now on sale. The event will be held at the Axiata Arena. Following The International 2018, Dota 2 fans can look forward to more exciting competition in the future.
