Valve Released a Minor Update for Dota 2 on New Year’s Eve

Dota 2 Receives Small Update Before 2020

If you missed the recent updates to Dota 2 on New Year’s Eve, here’s what you need to know. A small patch was quietly applied to the game just before the start of 2020. While this update didn’t receive much attention, it included important changes to a few abilities and introduced an automatic endpoint called “Frostivus is Over,” which will close all seasonal content on Jan. 2.

The main highlight of this update was the adjustment of abilities for certain heroes. These changes ensure that the behavior of these heroes can now be seen in guides. The updated abilities are available through the Aghanim’s Scepter item and include:

  • Pudge’s Eject
  • Templar Assassin’s Psionic Projection
  • Lycan’s Wolf Bite
  • Ogre Magi’s Unrefined Fireblast

In addition to the changes in abilities, there were also some minor edits made to animations. Notably, Snapfire’s muzzle flash was toned down when she fires her shotgun. Other heroes such as Phantom Lancer, Pudge, Terrorblade, and Void Spirit had their particles reworked for basic animations and attacks.

Although this update may not be the most significant, it showcases the attention to detail that is still being given to Dota 2, even during the holidays. Keep an eye out for the next major patch, which will likely be released after the WePlay! Bukovel Minor taking place from Jan. 9 to Jan. 12.
