Valve Pays Tribute to Team Spirit’s Dominance in TI 2023 by Altering Dota 2 Hero’s Name

Team Spirit Breaker Officially Honored by Valve After TI Win

Valve has decided to celebrate Team Spirit’s victory at The International by making a special gesture. Effective today, Oct. 31, the hero formerly known as Spirit Breaker will now be officially called “Team Spirit Breaker.”

During TI 2023, Spirit Breaker proved to be one of the top-tier heroes. With continuous buffs to abilities like Charge of Darkness and Bulldoze, the hero gradually rose to prominence. Despite receiving a few nerfs in the previous patch, Spirit Breaker made a comeback in the meta thanks to the prevalence of Hand of Midas and a larger map to charge around.

While not as popular as other heroes like Primal Beast, Muerta, and Kunkka, Spirit Breaker played a significant role in Team Spirit’s success whenever it was picked. According to Dota2ProTracker, Team Spirit Breaker currently has a comfortable 52 percent win rate, making it an overall successful hero in this patch.

Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov Shines with Team Spirit Breaker

Team Spirit’s offlaner, Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, showcased the full potential of Spirit Breaker in this year’s TI. Throughout the tournament, Collapse dismantled numerous teams with the hero, including a dominant game three in the grand finals against the formidable Western European powerhouse, Gaimin Gladiators. Team Spirit Breaker proved to be an unstoppable force.

The hero’s consistency played a crucial role in Team Spirit’s victory over the dominant Gaimin Gladiators, who had won every Dota 2 Pro Circuit Major event this year. Team Spirit flew under the radar for most of 2023, gradually gaining momentum and securing a convincing win against the consistently strong Team Liquid at the Riyadh Masters.

Throughout TI 2023, Team Spirit remained undefeated in the group stage and only dropped one game each to Team Liquid and Virtus.Pro during the playoffs, showcasing an almost flawless performance. To commemorate their impressive run, Valve created special stickers featuring the TI12 champions.

A Bright Future for Team Spirit

With their second TI win, Team Spirit now joins OG as the only two-time champions. The future looks promising for these rising Eastern European stars, and we’re excited to see what they will achieve in 2024. But first, they deserve a well-earned rest.
