Valve Joins Forces with Movistar Liga Pro Gaming to Revive South American Dota 2 Scene Amid COVID-19 Struggles

Valve Supporting Movistar Liga Pro Gaming for Dota 2 Tournaments in South America

Valve, one of the biggest names in the esports industry, is joining forces with Movistar Liga Pro Gaming, a leading South American esports league, to organize two separate Dota 2 tournaments with a total prize pool of $45,000. This exciting announcement was made by the league itself.

The sixth season of Movistar Liga Pro Gaming will now have $25,000 up for grabs, a significant increase from the $10,000 prize pool in the previous season. Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament, divided into two tiers to accommodate both professional and amateur squads.

A new edition called Final Series will feature eight of the top teams from the tournament’s Upper Division, as well as the winner of the Lower Division. These teams will battle it out for a prize pool of $20,000. The tournaments are scheduled to take place in the final quarter of 2020.

Valve’s decision to support Movistar Liga Pro Gaming is a much-needed boost for the Dota 2 scene in South America, which has been impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. With the Dota Pro Circuit on hold indefinitely, these tournaments will keep the competition alive and provide opportunities for players in the region until the DPC resumes in 2021.

Luis Carrillo Pinto, the CEO of Live Media Esports Entertainment, the event producer, expressed his gratitude for Valve’s contribution. He believes that this partnership is an acknowledgement of their efforts to professionalize the local esports scene over the past three years.

“Dota 2 is incredibly popular in Peru, with audiences that can rival those of professional soccer in some cases,” Pinto stated. “Our team is working hard to ensure that we deliver the best audiovisual and content experience for the massive community of esports fans in our country.”

This collaboration between Valve and Movistar Liga Pro Gaming is set to create exciting opportunities for Dota 2 players and fans in South America, further elevating the status of esports in the region.
