Upcoming Dota 2 Major Host with Track Record of Unpaid Staff and Organizational Issues

Tournament Organizer Allegedly Fails to Compensate Broadcasting Talent for Dota 2 Event

An upcoming Valve Major tournament in Dota 2 is making headlines as it has been revealed that the tournament organizer has allegedly not paid the broadcasting talent for one of its past events. Malaysia-based event hosting company, Fallout Gaming, hosted an event called Galaxy Battles on June 15, where the English-speaking talent was reportedly left uncompensated. One of the panelists, Andrew “Zyori” Campbell, who attended the event with his colleagues at the Dota 2 production outfit Moonduck, criticized the organizer on Twitter after news emerged of another chaotic event organized by Fallout Gaming.

Red Bull Coliseum: A Major Event Descends into Chaos

Fallout Gaming’s event, Red Bull Coliseum, held between October 27 and 29, showcased a range of games including Overwatch, Dota 2, FIFA Online 3, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). However, the grand finals for CS:GO and Overwatch had to be rescheduled just hours before they were supposed to take place. The official reason provided by Fallout Gaming was persistent technical issues, resulting in the finals being moved to a new venue. Competitors who attended the event have confirmed the technical problems. In addition to that, participants were expected to play on low-spec laptops, causing delays due to frame drops and connection issues.

Controversy Leads to Event Shutdown and Relocation

One of the local municipalities closed down the event and ordered Fallout Gaming to pack up its equipment within two hours. Apparently, Fallout Gaming had not obtained the necessary license to host the event. This forced the event to be suddenly relocated, causing further inconvenience and disruption.

Fallout Gaming’s History of Poor Events

Fallout Gaming has a track record of organizing subpar tournaments, with previous events plagued by production issues, poor player conditions, and inadequate on-site accommodations for viewers. The company faced heavy criticism for its Malaysia All-Star event in 2015, which was seen as a major disappointment.

This controversy surrounding Fallout Gaming comes just two months before the second edition of Galaxy Battles, set to take place on January 15, 2018. As the first Valve Major in Southeast Asia for the 2017-2018 season with a $1 million prize pool, there is hope that this event will not repeat the mistakes of the past. However, skepticism remains until the event proves itself.
