Uncertain Dota 2 Future for Both Sides as SumaiL Joins Team Secret

Team Secret Enlists SumaiL as Stand-In for BetBoom Dacha

The International 2023 spots are locked, but teams like Team Secret are preparing for other events in September that will serve as training grounds for next season. Today, Secret announced that they have enlisted SumaiL as a stand-in, giving both sides an opportunity to explore their Dota 2 futures.

A Missed Opportunity for Secret and SumaiL

Secret missed out on qualifying for TI12 in Europe, ending Puppey’s streak of attending every International. SumaiL’s tenure with Team Aster in China didn’t go as planned either, as they fell short of expectations in several events. Both teams showed improvement in the qualifying rounds but were unable to break through the competition from younger and more talented rosters.

Competing in BetBoom Dacha

With the Dota Pro Circuit season over, Secret will participate in the BetBoom Dacha tournament on September 10th. They will face off against other TI-bound teams and Nigma Galaxy. Armel, Secret’s Southeast Asian transplant, will take some time off to visit family. SumaiL will stand in for Secret at the event, with the agreement of both Aster and Nigma.

Opportunity for SumaiL in Secret?

Secret’s decision to bring in SumaiL as a stand-in could be an opportunity for them to evaluate how he fits into their lineup. Depending on the outcome of TI12 and the subsequent roster movements, there is a possibility of SumaiL joining Secret next season. The chaos and post-TI shuffling often lead to teams signing free agents or recruiting talent from other rosters.
