Topson considers returning to Europe following T1’s disappointing performance at TI11

Topson’s Future in Dota 2: Heading Back to Europe?

Topson, the Finnish Dota 2 player who achieved back-to-back wins at The International with OG, surprised fans when he announced he was taking a break from competing. However, he recently returned to the scene and played as a stand-in for T1 in Southeast Asia, alongside former teammate ana. Now, it seems like he might be heading back to Europe.

During the last part of the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit, Topson joined T1 and participated in the SEA regional qualifiers, as well as the Last Chance Qualifier for TI11. Unfortunately, their run ended early with a fifth-place exit, leaving two of the three players disappointed. As a result, Kuku, Whitemon, and Xepher’s contracts expired and they started searching for new teams. The fate of Topson and ana remains uncertain, as Topson is currently in high demand in the transfer market.

Since MATUMBAMAN retired from competitive Dota after placing third at TI11, there have been reports suggesting that Topson might join Team Liquid as his replacement.

In an episode of OG’s Monkey Business Show, Topson confirmed that returning to Europe was his dream. While he didn’t rule out a return to T1, it seems unlikely unless there are major changes. Currently, OG has control over where Topson can sign unless a buyout is negotiated. However, the organization may view Topson signing with a European rival as a necessary challenge.

Although there are still many other roster changes expected after TI11, the rumor of Topson joining Team Liquid as a replacement for MATUMBAMAN seems plausible. After all, why not replace one TI champion with another?
