Top Dota 2 teams express complete backing for the upcoming Singapore Dota Major

Multiple Teams Reaffirm Support for ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021

Several organizations that have qualified for the ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021 have released a statement expressing their excitement and support for the event. This will be the first physical event the teams will compete in after more than a year.

Recently, there have been rumors within the Dota 2 community about some players hoping for the cancellation of the event, which is scheduled to start on March 27.

In response to the rumors, the teams stated, “The planning and preparation for the Singapore Major has been an ongoing process for several months supported directly by the Singaporean Government. We are confident that every step is being taken to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved and are looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans and excited to see the return of LAN events.”

The statement was approved and signed by Alliance, Evil Geniuses, Fnatic, Natus Vincere, Neon Esports, OG, Team Liquid, Team Nigma, Team Secret, and Virtus.pro. All teams, except for OG, qualified for the event through the recently concluded regional leagues.

Sources close to the teams revealed that players and other members of the organizations wanted to clarify their stance on the Major due to the spread of false rumors within the community about a potential boycott.

Fortunately, most teams are eagerly looking forward to competing in the event. They have been reassured by the commitment and efforts of Valve, ONE Esports, PGL, and their partners in securing the event and implementing strict health and safety protocols.

The rumors about player dissatisfaction with the Major gained attention after Shannon “SUNSfan” Scotten mentioned them on the We Say Things podcast. He claimed that teams from CIS, Southeast Asia, North America, and South America were hoping for the event’s cancellation.

SUNSfan also noted that European teams had already been informed about the details of the Major and had approved them, leaving other teams with no choice but to comply or miss out on the biggest part of the Dota Pro Circuit.

Many of the details mentioned by SUNSfan were later confirmed by Yahoo Esports SEA. These include the absence of a 14-day quarantine for teams, but mandatory COVID-19 tests for foreign players before their departure and upon arrival in Singapore. Players must receive a negative test result before leaving the initial quarantine, which can take up to 48 hours.

Additionally, players will follow a strictly-controlled itinerary upon arrival and will be required to return to their home countries immediately after being eliminated from the event to minimize interactions.

Teams are now in the process of preparing for the Major and will soon travel to Singapore. The event will take place in three stages from March 27 to April 4, with the winning team receiving $200,000 and 500 DPC points.
