TI8 Team Preview: Team Secret, the Epitome of Efficiency

This article is part of a series profiling the 18 teams competing in The International 8, starting on August 15.

Road to redemption

European Dota 2 team, Team Secret, had a tough time during the 2016 to 2017 competitive season. After a disappointing performance in The International 7, they struggled to secure titles throughout the year. However, they made some changes to their roster and brought in new talent in the offseason, including players Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard and Adrian “Fata” Trinks.

These changes paid off, with Ace and Fata performing exceptionally well throughout the year. Their success, along with Puppey’s drafting skills, led Team Secret to victory in DreamLeague Season Eight, where they defeated TI8 champions Team Liquid 3-0.

Rapid rise

Team Secret continued to perform strongly throughout the year, winning two trophies and consistently placing well in tournaments. They ended the season with 5,136 Pro Circuit points, securing a spot in the top four slots on the leaderboard.

With their current performance, Team Secret is considered one of the favorites in TI8. Ace’s strong carry play and the team’s skill and experience make them a formidable opponent.

Avoiding overconfidence

Despite their success, Team Secret must avoid becoming overconfident in TI8. Puppey has experienced setbacks in the past, despite having star-studded lineups. To secure a top-eight finish and avoid repeating history, the team needs to remain focused and humble.

Could Puppey lead his team to victory and overcome the demons of past years?

Player to watch

Ace is an exceptional carry player known for his consistency and strong play. He excels at Lone Druid and is second only to Fnatic’s Abed Yusop when it comes to playing Meepo. Opposing teams will need to consider banning his signature heroes to limit his impact.

Biggest challenge

Team Secret has struggled in previous iterations of The International, despite having talented players. They will need to stay focused and not let their current strength lead to complacency.

Team grade

Team Secret receives an A- grade for their success in the Pro Circuit season and their consistent performance with the new roster.
