The visual theme of “subterranean” will be showcased at TI8.

Valve has announced the theme for this year’s edition of The International, and it is “subterranean.” The primary color for the event will be crystalline green. This was revealed through a post on the game’s Steam Community group.

The announcement also called upon artists and content creators in the Dota 2 community to submit their designs for the 2018 Collector’s Cache. This loot box contains cosmetic items and item sets for select heroes. Artists are encouraged to incorporate the subterranean theme into their submissions.

In previous years, the Collector’s Cache was only available to those who purchased the TI Battle Pass, and it is likely that this year’s version will follow the same pattern.

The submission period for designs starts today and will run until May 13. While Valve emphasizes the theme, they also encourage creators to think creatively and not limit themselves to underground-themed items. Designs can be submitted through the Steam Workshop.

Valve also teased upcoming physical merchandise for TI8, and artists can submit their own designs for this as well. Previous tournaments have seen TI8 merchandise sold at the Rogers Arena and through the Valve Store online.
