The newly-established organization, Planet Odd, welcomes the former Thunderbirds roster

Swedish Esports Organization Acquires Top Dota 2 Squad

A new esports organization based in Sweden has recently acquired one of the top teams in the game Dota 2.

The team, formerly known as Thunderbirds, reached second place at the International 6 tournament and has now joined the newly launched organization, Planet Odd. This organization, funded by online casino Casumo, officially started on May 19 and also has divisions in Hearthstone and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Tremendous Success in 2016

The Dota 2 roster, consisting of players Rasmus “MiSeRy-” Filipsen, Omar “w33” Aliwi, and Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok, saw great success in 2016. Their second-place finish at TI6 earned them a total of $3.4 million. They continued to perform well, securing a top four placement at the Boston Major and winning ESL One Genting.

A Struggle Since January

However, the team has faced challenges since January. They failed to qualify for the Dota 2 Asia Championship and finished last at the Kiev Major on April 28. Prior to the Kiev Major, the entire roster left their organization, Digital Chaos, to compete independently under the name Thunderbirds.

International 7 and the Road Ahead

With only two months remaining until the International 7, it is uncertain whether Planet Odd will receive an invitation based on their performance last year or if they will have to qualify through regional qualifiers.
