The latest Dota 2 Update 7.26 potentially introduces a decrease in game pace

Valve Releases Gameplay Update 7.26 for Dota 2

Amidst the ongoing pandemic, Valve and IceFrog are closely monitoring the competitive scene of Dota 2. As a result, a recent update has brought about significant changes to the game.

The focus of Gameplay Update 7.26 is not on heroes or items, but rather on introducing systematic changes that will prepare players for upcoming patches.

Valve’s Approach to Game Changes

Valve aims to slow down the pace of the game by making incremental adjustments, rather than overwhelming the community with massive changes all at once.

To achieve this, the update includes the following modifications:

  • Attributes no longer provide Magic Resistance, Spell Amplification, and Movement Speed.
  • Gold bounties reduced by 10 percent for buildings, lane creeps, neutrals, and heroes.
  • Kill streak gold reduced by 50 percent.

The reduction in gold will primarily affect farming heroes. Valve acknowledges that these changes need time to settle before further adjustments specific to heroes and items are implemented.

Implications and Impact

While these changes may not be a direct response to the prevalence of sub 25-minute games in the professional scene, they are expected to prolong match durations by reducing overall net worth. Additionally, the attribute nerf may have negative effects on Intelligence and Strength heroes, but the full impact remains to be seen.
