The Big Update unveils Dota Underlords’ talented masters.

Valve Introduces Underlords as Unique Units in Dota Underlords

Valve has surprised players with its latest Dota Underlords announcement. The game’s upcoming update, known as The Big Update, will introduce Underlords as their own units on the board.

Players’ Underlords will now take center stage on the battlefield. Instead of having passive effects, they will have multiple skills, ultimate abilities, and over 20 talents to choose from to increase their power.

Underlords utilize a unique resource called “Hype,” which functions similarly to a hero’s mana bar. Using abilities doesn’t consume Hype, but the Underlords must have enough Hype to activate them. Certain items, abilities, and status effects can cause Hype to drop, deactivating their skills.

The first Underlord to be introduced is Hobgen, a pyromaniac fairy with a fiery personality. Hobgen has one passive ability, two active abilities, and will choose his ultimate at level 20.

Hobgen’s passive allows his auto attacks to generate Hype for each unit on fire. His first active ability, Explosivo!, deals damage to all enemies in the area of effect and sets them on fire. His second active, Super-charged, sacrifices his own unit’s life to grant them increased attack speed.

At level 20, each Underlord will have the option to choose from two different ultimates. Hobgen can select Let’s Go Crazy, which enhances Super-charged, or Friendly Fire, which allows incendiary allies to throw explosives.

With over 20 talents to choose from starting at the first neutral round at level 10, matches of Underlords will become a frantic exercise in micro-management with the introduction of the new crime lords.

While the Underlords will be actual units on the board, it is unclear whether they will have their own alliances or benefit from existing ones. If they actively affect the game, it could introduce new strategies and potentially improve less popular alliances like Troll, which could boost Hobgen’s attack speed.

Valve plans to introduce one more Underlord before concluding the preview of The Big Update.
