WePlay Esports AniMajor Group Stage Concludes with Team Spirit Securing Last Playoff Spot
The group stage of the WePlay Esports AniMajor has come to an end, with only one tiebreaker match needed to determine the six teams advancing to the playoffs.
Team Spirit emerged victorious in a best-of-one against Team Liquid, eliminating the European team and securing the final playoff spot, despite not winning a single series outright.
Close Call for Team Liquid
After a tough start with a 1-7 record, Team Liquid made a comeback and came close to advancing in the second round. However, they couldn’t secure a clean sweep against Evil Geniuses, which resulted in a tiebreaker match against Team Spirit.
Draft Differences
In their initial series, Liquid had swept Spirit. However, in the tiebreaker match, Spirit strategically banned the hero Broodmother, which had caused them trouble before. Liquid’s options were further limited when Secret banned Templar Assassin. Liquid had a 4-2 record when picking TA and a 0-6 record without the hero in their drafts.
Team Spirit’s Comeback
Although it initially seemed like draft history wouldn’t matter, Team Spirit rallied after being significantly behind in gold. They made a dominant comeback in the final 10 minutes of the game, ultimately eliminating Liquid.
Beastcoast Eliminated by Nigma
In another series, Nigma swept Beastcoast, resulting in Beastcoast’s elimination from the AniMajor. Nigma secured a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs, while Beastcoast missed out on a chance to compete in a tiebreaker with Liquid and Spirit.
