Talon Esports captures the essence of Invictus Gaming in post-TI11 Dota roster changes

Talon Esports Completes 2023 Dota Pro Circuit Roster with Signing of Oli

Talon Esports wasted no time in securing their roster for the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit. The organization released two of its older players and made a bold move by acquiring Chan “Oli” Chon Kien from Invictus Gaming (iG) as their new position five support player. This signing comes after Oli’s departure from iG, marking his return to Southeast Asia.

Talon Esports has also added Jabz from Fnatic to their lineup, injecting their young core with experienced leaders. This move aims to enhance the team’s performance during challenging moments. With this final addition, Talon has completed their 2023 roster.

This acquisition dealt a significant blow to Invictus Gaming, but they have the opportunity to bounce back as they navigate a chaotic roster shuffle among other prominent organizations in China.

Oli’s arrival at iG post-TI8 brought success to the team, culminating in a fourth-place finish at TI10. However, their performance dwindled last year, leading to a drop into Division II for the DPC regional league and failing to secure a spot in TI11. While management anticipated changes to the roster, it’s surprising to see one of the core players depart.

For Oli, this move represents his first venture outside of China since joining iG in 2018. Returning to Southeast Asia, where he debuted with Geek Fam in 2017, he brings valuable experience to Talon Esports.

Talon faced early disappointment in their inaugural Dota season, exiting TI11 in 17th place. By recruiting Oli, the team hopes to leverage his competitive experience and success at TI to lead their young roster alongside Jabz.
