SyndereN Criticizes Current State of Dota 2 Pubs in Recent Years

The Challenges of the Dota 2 Ranked System

The ranked system in Dota 2 is a competitive arena where players strive to showcase their skills. After completing their calibration matches, players are placed in a skill bracket that matches their abilities, and they work towards improving their rank through gameplay.

While skill improvement is important, other factors also play a role in increasing one’s rank in Dota 2. Having good manners and a positive attitude can often make a difference, especially in higher ranks. When tensions rise, players who remain calm and composed can accumulate more wins over time, while those who give up easily may see their matchmaking rating (MMR) decrease.

SyndereN’s Frustration with Ranked Matches

Former professional player and Dota 2 caster, syndereN, recently had an experience that made him question the current state of ranked matches in Dota 2. During a public match, syndereN’s team, the Dire side, encountered coordination issues and suffered multiple losses.

Realizing that the Radiant team had the upper hand, syndereN advised his team to focus on farming and await the arrival of a crucial item, the Black King Bar (BKB), which provides spell immunity. However, despite his call, one of his teammates, Ember Spirit, got caught by the Radiant team and was killed under the mid lane tower.

SyndereN, playing as Dawnbreaker, swiftly responded to the situation and tried to help Ember Spirit by using his ultimate ability, Solar Guardian, to fly to the location. Unfortunately, syndereN was the only Dire player who came to Ember Spirit’s aid, and both of them died under their own tower.

Frustrated by Ember Spirit’s lack of assistance and quick abandonment of the match, syndereN expressed his disappointment, stating that Dota pubs are currently at their worst state in 15 years.

The Decline of Matchmaking Quality

SyndereN, like many players, is unable to identify the exact reason behind the decline in match quality in Dota 2. He wonders what has changed over the past three years that has worsened the overall experience for players. This issue has been a hot topic within the Dota 2 community, with another former professional player, Fear, also expressing his concerns in a Tweet.

While syndereN plays on European servers and Fear queues on US East, they share the same sentiment about players being too quick to give up and ruin the match due to a single mistake. Although Dota 2 has a punishment system in place for griefers, it seems inadequate in preventing such behavior.

This issue of players sabotaging matches is not restricted to higher tiers but affects players in all skill brackets.
