Shopify Rebellion’s hopes for an NA title at Dota 2 Berlin Major are dashed by EG’s dominant performance

Evil Geniuses Dominates Shopify Rebellion in Quick Victory at Dota 2 Berlin Major

Evil Geniuses completely outclassed Shopify Rebellion in the Lower Bracket of the Dota 2 Berlin Major, winning two consecutive matches in less than 30 minutes each. This dominant performance secured their spot in the next round of the $500,000 tournament, while Shopify Rebellion was eliminated.

The first match lasted only 29 minutes, with Evil Geniuses taking control early on. Chris Luck’s incredible performance on Shadow Fiend, contributing 11 kills out of his team’s total of 28, played a significant role in their victory. On the other hand, Shopify Rebellion only managed to secure three kills throughout the match. Their defeat was even more embarrassing as they prematurely surrendered after walking into a trap.

The second match was even worse for Shopify Rebellion. Although they performed better in terms of kills, Abed’s outstanding performance on Alchemist led Evil Geniuses to victory in just 27 minutes.

Shopify Rebellion was the only remaining North American organization in the tournament, as TSM had already been eliminated in the group stage. Despite their decent performance in Group B, placing fourth, they were defeated by 9 Pandas in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals and collapsed against Evil Geniuses in this match.

This loss marked another setback for the struggling North American region in Dota 2. With only Shopify Rebellion and TSM having a chance to qualify for The International this year, the region’s overall performance has been disappointing. Only four other teams, including Nouns, felt, Wildcard Gaming, and B8, have managed to score any points in the Dota Pro Circuit.

To add insult to injury, Shopify Rebellion lost to the organization they were once a part of. In November 2022, Evil Geniuses replaced them with Thunder Awaken’s South American roster. Shopify Rebellion picked up the team shortly after, but losing to their former organization was undoubtedly demoralizing.

In a post-series interview, Shopify Rebellion’s captain, Fly, admitted that they had the wrong approach to facing Evil Geniuses. The first game was a complete defeat, and although they put up a fight in the second game, they couldn’t find a way to stop the dominant Evil Geniuses.

Fly expressed his disappointment with the outcome but remains hopeful for improvement in future tournaments after the conclusion of the Berlin Major.
