Shopify Rebellion brings powerhouse lineup to Dota 2 in North America

Shopify Rebellion Signs Star Player and Sponsorship Deal

Fly and the ex-Evil Geniuses roster have quickly established themselves as the team to beat in North America. Just one day after their official announcement, Shopify Rebellion signed a rival team’s star player and secured a sponsorship deal with Shopify Rebellion today.

This offseason, Shopify made their entrance into Dota 2 with the ex-EG lineup and plans to bring all the players to their facility in Canada for the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit. Along with the former EG members, the team also acquired SabeRLight from TSM on the final day of the roster shuffle.

The team tweeted the announcement:

The agreement with SabeRLight was in the works for some time, but only came together and was finalized at the last minute. The deal with Shopify also came together quickly. Once both deals were completed earlier today, the star carry player felt relief.

Arteezy, a member of the team, is confident in their talent and believes they can compete with anyone in the world. However, he will only truly be confident once the team starts playing together. He draws a comparison to EG’s 2021 lineup, which reached multiple grand finals at Major tournaments. SabeRLight will now take the middle position for this new squad.

Despite acquiring SabeRLight from TSM, Arteezy still acknowledges the strength of their North American rivals and the potential of new challengers rising up. He jokingly blames Quinn moving to Europe after Quincy Crew’s disbandment for the influx of talent, claiming Quinn was the wall keeping everyone out. Now, others will try to take over.

At the end of the announcement stream, Arteezy confirmed that the temporary name of the team, Alameda 2018, was a reference to EG’s old training facility “the Alameda House” and had no direct relation to the ongoing FTX financial drama.

The newly minted Dota division for Shopify Rebellion will begin its run in NA’s Division I for the 2023 DPC season in January. This lineup looks like an easy favorite, unless TSM instantly clicks or a newcomer rises to the challenge.
