SG esports eliminated as the second team from The International 10

SG esports Eliminated from The International 10 Group Stage

SG esports has been eliminated from The International 10 as they exited the event’s group stage today. They become the second team to leave the competition, following Thunder Predator’s withdrawal yesterday.

Strong Showing, But Unable to Survive

SG had a slightly stronger performance compared to their South American counterparts, Thunder Predator. They won a series to stay in the running until the final series of day four. The Brazilian team needed everything to go their way to survive the final day, but despite having some control over their fate, they fell short.

In the first set of matchups on day four, SG faced off against Quincy Crew in a series that would likely determine the team that would be eliminated if either side secured a 2-0 victory.

The series remained competitive, but Quincy Crew secured a 45-minute victory in the first game without ever falling behind. Despite the loss, SG put up a fight in the series, but Quincy Crew prevailed in the late game and claimed a 2-0 victory, leaving SG to face Fnatic.

Fnatic was another struggling team in Group B, and for SG to have a chance at advancing to the lower bracket, Fnatic needed to lose. However, Fnatic not only won their match against Team Secret, but they did so convincingly in two dominant games.

When Quincy Crew secured their first game against Elephant in their final series, it marked the official elimination of SG from playoff contention.

“It’s been a long way to get here,” SG said. “We worked hard to evolve and compete with the best in the world. Unfortunately, we did not achieve the results we hoped for. Thank you for your continued support, and until next time!”

Like Thunder Predator, SG will return to South America following their 17th place finish. They will receive $100,000 of the $40 million prize pool. The remaining South American representative, beastcoast, is still in the competition and will have a chance to compete for the Aegis of Champions when TI10’s main event begins on Oct. 12.
