Reportedly, Neon Esports won’t be penalized for employing multiple stand-ins at ONE Esports Singapore Major.

Neon Esports Won’t Face Penalty for Using Substitute Players in The ONE Esports Singapore Major

The ONE Esports Singapore Major has finalized the details for its payouts, and Neon Esports will not be penalized for using multiple substitute players during the Dota 2 event. An admin from PGL, the organization involved in the production of the Major, has confirmed that Neon will not receive a penalty for utilizing stand-ins. This decision was communicated by the admin, not made by PGL itself.

Penalty for Team Aster

On the other hand, Team Aster will reportedly face a penalty for their actions. According to Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen, the developer and analyst at datDota, Aster will be penalized. Despite not earning any DPC points or prize money at the Major, this penalty will likely establish a clear precedent for similar cases in the future.

Stand-Ins and Changes in Neon Esports

Neon Esports, like several other teams, had to use stand-ins due to COVID-19 concerns. However, Neon was the only organization that had to change players once again during the event. Before their day-two matches in the group stage, Neon had to remove Rafael “Rappy” Palo from the roster due to close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. Rappy was already substituting for John “Natsumi-” Vargas, who couldn’t travel to the Major due to being unfit. Yang “Deth” Wu Heng took Rappy’s place and played with the team until their elimination by Team Secret. Neon finished joint-fifth, earning $25,000 and 300 Dota Pro Circuit points.

Upcoming Updates

There has been no official statement released on the social channels of PGL or ONE Esports. However, later this week, more information is expected to be shared regarding the earnings of each team and any penalties they may face.
