PGL Releases Information on Southeast Asia Dota Pro Circuit

PGL Announces Invited Teams and Qualifier Details for Dota Pro Circuit in Southeast Asia

PGL, the tournament organizer for the Dota Pro Circuit league in Southeast Asia, has revealed the four teams that have received direct invitations to the Upper Division. TNC Predator and Fnatic were obvious choices, given their strong performances in the region. However, TNC still needs to find a fifth player before January 18. Additionally, BOOM Esports secured their spot in the Upper Division by excelling in online competitions throughout 2020.

The surprise inclusion was T1, who received an invite despite only performing well in a few events and recently releasing two players. It is unclear whether this decision was influenced by the T1 brand or due to the impending departure of three players from Motivate.trust in an upcoming roster shuffle.

A total of eight teams will compete in the Upper Division, with the remaining four spots up for grabs in a qualifier. The teams contending for these spots are 496 Gaming, ex-IO Dota2, Execration, Smart Omega, Vice Esports, Galaxy Racer, Cignal Ultra, and Neon Esports.

The closed qualifiers will consist of two stages. The first stage will be a best-of-three bracket, from which the top four teams will advance to the Upper Division. The remaining four teams, along with eight teams from a separate open qualifier, will compete in the Lower Bracket, with the top eight teams from this stage forming the Lower Division.

According to Valve’s breakdown of the 2021 DPC, the top three teams from the SEA Upper Division league will secure qualification for the first Major on March 25.

The open qualifiers and first stage of the closed qualifiers begin on January 4, leading up to the official start of the regional league on January 18. Stay tuned for more updates on the Dota Pro Circuit in Southeast Asia.
