One Dota 2 item has become so dominant that it’s gone beyond being a meme

The Rise of Meteor Hammer in Dota 2

Meteor Hammer, also known as the Meme Hammer within the Dota 2 community, has always had questions surrounding its effectiveness. However, since its introduction in Oct. 2017, a recent change has made it a popular choice among players.

The item consists of a Perseverance, a Crown, and a Recipe, which can be purchased for 2,300 Gold. It provides eight points in each stat, 6.5 health regen, and 2.5 mana regen. But what truly sets it apart is its active ability.

After a channeling period, players can summon a meteor that damages and stuns enemies and buildings within a specific area. The damage is applied partially upon impact and partially over time.

Initially, Meteor Hammer was primarily used by Treant Protector and Outworld Destroyer players in specific situations. However, a recent patch has changed that, leading to its widespread use among various heroes and roles.

The key change was a reduction in its channel time, from 2.5 seconds to 2 seconds, resulting in a total time until impact of 2.5 seconds.

Although this may seem insignificant, it has had a significant impact. Heroes like Dragon Knight, Magnus, Mars, Nyx Assassin, Riki, and Sand King now frequently purchase Meteor Hammer to complement their stun and disable abilities.

Data from Dota2ProTracker indicates that high-ranked players choose Meteor Hammer 60 percent of the time, depending on their chosen role. Even professional players like OG legend Topson have incorporated it into their gameplay, with Riki being a core hero for him.

If the best players in the Dota 2 community are utilizing Meteor Hammer, then it is certainly a viable item to consider.
