North America’s Powerhouse Team Overcomes Absence of Star Player at Dota 2’s Berlin Major

Shopify Rebellion Faces Visa Issues Ahead of DreamLeague Season 19

Shopify Rebellion has secured a spot in the Berlin Major after an impressive performance in the second tour of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit. However, their participation in the highly-anticipated DreamLeague Season 19 is now uncertain due to visa problems affecting their mid-lane player, Abed Yusop.

With Abed unable to join the team in Europe, Shopify Rebellion will rely on substitute player Kasra “Mikey” Mesbah. Mikey, a 17-year-old pub-star who was ranked number one in Europe in December 2022, has been chosen as Abed’s replacement.

Abed’s absence is a major setback for Shopify Rebellion, but it presents a significant opportunity for Mikey. As the former top-ranked player on the leaderboard, Mikey had already caught the attention of many with his impressive gameplay.

After being asked to stand-in for Entity, Mikey proved himself capable and received praise from the team’s captain, Dzmitry “Fishman” Palishchuk. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Abed will be able to travel to Europe in time for the tournament, adding a sense of urgency to the situation as the Berlin Major starts on April 26.

There is still a possibility that Abed may join the event by the end of the group stage or at the start of the main event. In such a case, Mikey’s performance will be crucial for Shopify Rebellion to navigate the group stage successfully. DreamLeague Season 19 holds great importance as a stepping stone to Riyadh Masters, and SR cannot afford any missteps.

The Berlin Major begins just three days after DreamLeague, leaving SR with limited time to make necessary adjustments before the tournament. For SR to secure DPC points and a share of the prize pool in the Berlin Major, they must place in the top eight. Without Abed’s timely arrival in Europe, Shopify Rebellion will be facing a challenging situation.
