MATUMBAMAN to Make Competitive Dota 2 Comeback at Amateur Tournament in Finland

Dota 2 Champion MATUMBAMAN to Play in Local Finnish Tournament

Local Dota 2 tournaments provide a platform for communities to come together and showcase their skills. However, a surprise awaits participants at an upcoming LAN event in Finland—the presence of Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen, winner of The International 2017.

Even though MATUMBAMAN retired from competitive Dota 2 in 2022, his passion for the game remains. After joining the TI 2023 panel in October, he has now decided to compete in a local tournament in Finland that offers a prize pool of $1,600.

MATUMBAMAN’s team, Lasse’s best men + Tommi, received a direct invitation to the event. They will be joined by seven other teams who will qualify through three rounds of qualifiers.

While MATUMBAMAN has not officially commented on his participation in the tournament, it seems that he simply wants to have fun with his friends and support the local Dota 2 scene.

Although there are no other well-known players in the event, many Dota 2 fans have already expressed interest in following it, as it kicks off on Dec. 15. Some fans also expressed their desire for MATUMBAMAN to make a comeback to the competitive scene, considering that retirements in Dota 2 tend to be short-lived.

MATUMBAMAN played a crucial role in Team Liquid’s victory at The International 2017 and has been a key figure in the Dota 2 scene ever since. Despite facing setbacks and roster changes, he consistently proved his talent and dedication to the game.
