Unused Voice Lines Uncovered for Windranger’s Arcana in Dota 2
Designing a hero for Dota 2 is no easy task. Not only do developers at Valve have to create a unique set of skills for each hero, they also need to ensure that the hero’s lore aligns seamlessly. This involves creating countless interactions with other heroes and items, which are often expressed through voice lines. Recently, a Dota 2 fan discovered that Windranger’s Arcana item had a surprising 31 unused voice lines.
These voice lines were originally intended for Windranger’s interactions with the Tome of Knowledge, an item that was later removed from the game in Dota 2 New Frontiers 7.33. However, despite the removal of the item, these voice lines were still recorded and remained unused.
These unused voice lines provide some interesting insights into the lore of Dota 2. Windranger shares details about famous landmarks in the game, such as Icewrack, Isle of Jidi, and even Dark Reef. She even mentions secret tunnels located beneath Roshar’s lair, which would make sense if the guardian of Aegis didn’t teleport around the map.
Although the Tome of Knowledge was replaced by Wisdom Runes, which caused the voice lines related to the Tome to be out of order, many of Windranger’s unused voice lines could still be relevant in other parts of a Dota 2 match, including some neutral responses.
This isn’t the first time Valve has discarded voice lines in Dota 2. When the Courier was still an item in the shop, every hero had a response for purchasing one. However, with the change that introduced five couriers at the start of each match, courier voice lines became obsolete.
