Liquid’s post-TI11 move hints at Topson as MATUMBAMAN’s replacement

Team Liquid’s Roster Shuffle: MATUMBAMAN Retires and the Hunt for Replacement Begins

Team Liquid had a remarkable journey at The International 11, going from wildcard in the LCQ to a powerful contender in the main event, ultimately securing a third-place finish.

However, the competitive Dota 2 scene is known for its cutthroat nature. It is not uncommon for players and organizations to feel that anything less than first place is a failure, prompting roster changes.

Fans were worried that Team Liquid would go through a major roster overhaul. Fortunately, coach Blitz confirmed that the only departure would be Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen, who retired.

During an episode of Cap Casts, Blitz said to Austin “Cap” Walsh, “Now the team hunt begins. Now we find a replacement for Matu, which is obviously challenging. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Blitz also mentioned that they are not specifically looking for a carry player. They plan to keep Michael “miCKe” Vu in the mid-lane due to his impressive performances at TI11, but this plan is subject to change.

This opens up the possibility for Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, a highly sought-after free agent and two-time TI champion, to be considered as a potential candidate, particularly since he is open to returning to Europe. Blitz’s comments may or may not have hinted at this possibility.

At the end of the podcast, Blitz exclaimed, “Yeah, it’s going to be a TOP season. Just cut it there!” Some fans believe this is a clear indication, while others remain skeptical, especially considering Blitz mentioned reaching out to multiple Dota 2 players in free agency earlier in the podcast. Interpret it as you wish.

While the search for a replacement player continues, the Dota 2 community eagerly awaits Team Liquid’s decision.
