Item from Trove Carafe allegedly causing FPS issues at The International 2019

The International 2019 is the biggest Dota 2 tournament, and Valve wants the newest Trove Carafe items to be showcased while the top teams compete for the Aegis of Champions.

However, one specific item caused PSG.LGD and OG to experience frame drops during the upper bracket finals.

In one of the tournament’s biggest games, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs played Nature’s Prophet, a hero who received a shiny new Immortal rarity item called Monarch of the Sapphire Glen. This item gives Prophet a cape designed to look like a Monarch butterfly’s wings and summons the creatures as a special effect when using Wrath of Nature.

Within the first 10 minutes, OG experienced several pauses due to FPS (frames per second) issues on Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen’s Zeus in the midlane. Officials had to check Topson’s hardware before the game could resume.

After a brief period without issues, Topson paused the game again when chasing LGD through the midlane. This time, Jian Wei “xNova” Yap confirmed that he and his teammates were experiencing the same lag.

After a nearly 12-minute break, the teams resumed the game, and LGD secured a victory in game one.

On Reddit, a thread highlighted the issue with the Prophet Trove Carafe item, attributing the FPS drops to the particle effects of Prophet’s ultimate ability affecting gameplay in the midlane. Another user confirmed experiencing FPS drops when using the Prophet’s Immortal item.

Johan “N0tail” Sundstein mentioned that the FPS drop caused the game to run at 80 FPS whenever the midlane was in use. While it didn’t significantly affect the outcome of the match in LGD’s favor, it was still an annoyance to the players.

Both players at The International and viewers in the Dota 2 client, including Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner who was mentioned in the initial Reddit thread, acknowledged this issue.

Since the problem was quickly identified, it is unlikely that players will use the other Trove Carafe Immortals for the remaining matches of The International 2019.
