Is Muerta, Dota 2’s Latest Hero, Possibly an Unreleased Character from the Original Game?

Valve Teases New Dota 2 Hero, Muerta

During The International 2022, Valve unveiled a teaser for the upcoming addition to the Dota 2 roster, Muerta. Although no specific details were provided about the character, fans speculate about its potential release.

With Dota’s rich history, fans are familiar with the existence of scrapped heroes from Dota 1 that never made their way to Dota 2. Some players believe that Muerta could be one of these unreleased heroes.

Before Primal Beast’s introduction to Dota 2, Gleipner, the chains that could hold him, were added to the game. In patch 7.31, Revenant’s Brooch, an item that belonged to the Ghost Revenant from Dota 1, became available in Dota 2.

There are some Phantom Assassin—Persona voice lines in the game that may refer to Muerta, the Ghost Revenant.

These voice lines are associated with encounters with an “unknown hero” that is likely Muerta.

In addition to the potential confirmation from the voice lines, datamines have revealed possible abilities of Muerta. Leak suggests the hero possesses Grave Grapple, Life Link, Soul Swell, and True Love as her abilities.

Muerta’s existence was also leaked in a datamine from two years ago, alongside 18 other heroes. The leak referred to her as Corpse Mother.
