Is Dota 2 Releasing a Battle Pass in 2023?

The International 2023 Battle Pass for Dota 2: What to Expect

The International is the most anticipated event in the Dota 2 calendar, accompanied by the release of the battle pass. The battle pass allows players to engage in the tradition and unlock exclusive items and rewards.

From cosmetics to voice lines, the battle pass offers once-in-a-year items that enhance the TI spirit. Not only that, but it also plays a crucial role in funding The International’s prize pool, making it an essential part of Dota 2’s competitive scene.

Thanks to the crowdfunding nature of the battle pass, Dota 2 has consistently boasted some of the highest prize pools in the esports industry. As we approach The International 2023, or TI12, fans are already eager to know when the latest battle pass iteration will be available or if Valve has something else planned for 2023.

When Will The International 2023 Battle Pass Be Available?

On June 19, 2023, Valve made an announcement stating that they would be discontinuing the battle pass system that Dota 2 players have grown accustomed to over the years. This means there will be no battle pass with cosmetics and rewards in 2023.

However, Valve also revealed that there will still be a “TI-themed update” coming in September 2023. This update aims to crowdfund The International without relying on cosmetic rewards.

The community’s response to this change has been mixed, primarily because cosmetics were the primary motivator for players to purchase the battle pass. Pro players have expressed concerns about how the tournament will be funded, especially as Dota 2’s Major prize pools have decreased, with TI as the ultimate goal.

While the idea of more frequent updates throughout the year is appealing to Dota 2 fans, we’ll have to wait and see if Valve can use this opportunity to deliver high-quality content consistently.
