Invictus Gaming narrowly triumphs over beastcoast at the MDL Chengdu Major

Invictus Gaming Triumphs Over beastcoast in Dota 2 MDL Chengdu Major

Today, there was an intense matchup between two aggressive teams, Invictus Gaming and beastcoast, at the Dota 2 MDL Chengdu Major. The series went to three games, with Invictus Gaming ultimately securing the win after taking advantage of a crucial mistake made by Jean “Chris Luck” Gonzales.

The first two games were evenly split between beastcoast and Invictus Gaming. In game one, beastcoast showcased their skills with Hector “K1” Rodriguez on Chaos Knight, supported by an unconventional offlane Ancient Apparition and mid Kunkka to counter IG’s Morphling-Earthshaker combo. Despite a late comeback attempt from IG, beastcoast comfortably closed out the game.

Game two, on the other hand, was dominated by Invictus Gaming, who defeated beastcoast in under 30 minutes. Beastcoast only managed to secure one kill compared to IG’s 30, with Zhou “Emo” Yi standing out on his Templar Assassin.

The third game was the deciding match between the Chinese and Peruvian teams. Both teams were relentless in their aggression, as a loss here meant elimination. IG had Emo on Ember Spirit and Chris Luck on Templar Assassin, both playing their signature heroes.

Although the mid laners took the spotlight, two unexpected heroes, IG’s Thiay “JT-” Jun Wen on Legion Commander and beastcoast’s Adrian “Wisper” Dobles on Enchantress, also played crucial roles in their teams’ success.

However, IG started falling behind to beastcoast’s Drow Ranger tri-core strategy. Beastcoast’s high damage output allowed them to dominate heroes and objectives, giving them a significant net worth advantage in the mid game.

But then, Chris Luck made a costly mistake. In a teamfight without vision, he misjudged his hero’s strength and got himself stuck in the trees. Taking advantage of this, IG’s support Chan “Oli” Chon Kien cut down a tree with a Quelling Blade to rescue JT-, who then swiftly eliminated the trapped Templar Assassin.

With beastcoast’s key player out of the picture, IG stormed down the mid lane and swiftly destroyed the tier four towers, securing an unexpected victory.

Beastcoast’s journey in the tournament ends here, as they were unable to improve upon their top-eight placement at The International 2019. Despite this, they have earned the admiration of fans for their aggressive playstyle and exciting plays, even in the face of elimination.

IG, on the other hand, can breathe a sigh of relief with their fortuitous win. They showed moments of brilliance throughout the series, particularly in game two. However, their carry player, Jin “flyfly” Zhiyi, needs to step up his gameplay if IG wants to go further in the tournament.

With this win, IG has secured a top-six placement in their debut Major showing. They have earned $60,000 and 900 DPC points and will now face J.Storm in the next round of the lower bracket.
