The 2019 World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) Finals: Clash of the Top Teams
The 2019 World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) Finals is set to be a major showdown among the top teams in Dota 2. Many renowned teams have already secured their spots through the ongoing qualifiers. Specifically, China has already secured both of its representatives, PSG.LGD and Invictus Gaming, after dominating the qualifier playoffs.
PSG.LGD’s Strong Comeback
PSG.LGD had a tough start to the year, failing to qualify for the previous Dota Pro Circuit Major and dealing with captain Xu “fy” Linsen’s absence due to eye surgery. However, the team quickly regained their form in the qualifiers. After going undefeated in the group stage and earning a top seed in the playoffs, they successfully defeated tough Chinese competitors like IG and Keen Gaming. Although Keen Gaming managed to take one game off LGD, they eventually lost 2-1 in the opening round of the playoffs. LGD then defeated EHOME.Immortal and swept IG again in the grand finals to secure the first invite to the 2019 WESG Finals.
IG’s Strong Performance
IG had a strong start to the season, winning the Dota Summit 11 Minor and finishing third at the MDL Chengdu Major. However, they struggled in the qualifiers, narrowly avoiding elimination by winning a play-in match against CDEC Gaming. This close call ignited their performance, leading them to a flawless run to the grand finals. Along the way, they defeated EHOME, Keen, Team Aster, and EHOME.Immortal before losing to LGD in the finals. Despite the loss, IG secured a spot in the 2019 WESG Finals.
Other Qualifying Teams
Several other teams have also qualified, including Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao’s Fighting PandaS in North America and TNC Predator in Southeast Asia. The remaining spots will be filled in the coming weeks until all 24 teams have been named.
The date for the 2019 WESG Finals has not been announced yet, but as the 2020 competitive Dota 2 tournament scene unfolds with other event dates, it is likely to be determined soon.
