How Tundra Esports Utilized Sports Psychology to Dominate Dota 2 at The International 11

Tundra Esports Secures Victory with the Help of a Sports Psychologist

Last year, Tundra Esports had an impressive season in the Dota Pro Circuit. However, their success truly skyrocketed during The International 11. Not only did they showcase outstanding performances, but they also claimed the ultimate victory by winning the Aegis.

While their skill, strategy, synergy, talented players, and exceptional captain and coach played a significant role in their success, another crucial factor was the addition of a sports psychologist to their team. In an exclusive interview with [BLIX.GG](https://blix.gg/news/sports-psychologist-dan-abrahams-on-working-in-esports-joining-tundra-for-ti11), the psychologist discussed the impact he made.

Tundra reached out to Dan Abrahams, an experienced sports psychologist who has worked with top athletes and teams for over two decades, after a series of poor performances. They sought his guidance to overcome their challenges in the latter half of the season.

Abrahams initially felt out of his element, as he had never worked with an esports team before. However, Tundra assured him that they wanted an outsider to provide psychological guidance, prompting him to accept the offer. And the results were outstanding.

Initially, the sessions with Abrahams took place over Zoom. However, due to the positive impact he had on the organization and players, he eventually joined them at a training camp and the Arlington Major.

At first, the results were not favorable for the team, finishing 15th to 16th at the event. Coach Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling believed that their intense focus on psychology concepts, along with burnout, contributed to their performance. However, after an “open and honest conversation” with Abrahams, they chose to persist, and it didn’t take long for their efforts to pay off. From that point forward, Tundra did not lose a single series.

Although Abrahams did not disclose specific details, his work involved teaching the team “techniques, philosophies, frameworks, and theories” to ensure they were in the right mental state both individually and as a team.

While Abrahams has not continued working with Tundra after TI11, the impact of his knowledge may have a lasting effect on the team, potentially leading them to dominate once again this year.
