How to Determine Your MMR in Dota 2

Dota 2: Understanding the Ranked System and Checking Your MMR

In the world of multiplayer games, ranked modes have become the norm for distinguishing skill levels. However, this wasn’t always the case for Dota 2. Prior to 2017, the only indication of skill was the matchmaking rating (MMR). It wasn’t until Valve revamped the rank system with tiers and medals that players were able to label their skill level with pride.

The new system has undergone changes over the years, but the medals have stood the test of time. It’s important to note that these ranked tiers are still based on your MMR. Your MMR will increase or decrease depending on whether you win or lose a match, so medals don’t completely disregard your MMR.

While your ranked medal is only visible on the main menu, you can still check your MMR through your profile. Here’s how:

  1. Launch Dota 2 and click on your name on the main menu.
  2. You’ll find your name at the top left of your screen.
  3. Once your profile opens, click on “Stats”.
  4. This will direct you to a list showcasing your performance with all the heroes. Your MMR will be displayed in the top right corner of this tab.

It’s worth mentioning that the tier thresholds for medals may shift slightly, but you can still estimate the medals you can aim for with specific MMR tiers. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Herald (0-616 MMR)
  • Guardian (616-1386 MMR)
  • Crusader (1386-2156 MMR)
  • Archon (2156-2926 MMR)
  • Legend (2310-3696 MMR)
  • Ancient (3696-4466 MMR)
  • Divine (4466-5420 MMR)
  • Immortal (5420+ MMR)

In addition to your ranked medal and MMR, your profile also provides other useful statistics about your recent 20 matches. By hovering over your profile, you can check your overall playstyle using the pentagon-shaped performance indicator.

Keep in mind that for each solo match, you’ll gain or lose 30 MMR, and for party queue matches, it’s 20 MMR. Although you can’t see the specific gains and losses from each match, you can track your progress by keeping a close eye on your MMR.
