Historic Curse Persists as Dota 2’s Standout Mid Laner Exits TI 2023 Prematurely

Abed’s Struggle to Overcome Curse in Dota 2: Will Roster Changes Be the Answer?

Abed, a top-tier mid laner in Dota 2, continues to face disappointment in The International (TI) playoffs. Despite his skills, he has not been able to secure a best-of-three series victory in any of the seven TIs he has participated in.

His TI journey began in TI6 with Execration, where they were eliminated in the wildcard qualifications by Escape Gaming. In TI7, Abed’s team Digital Chaos showed slight improvement, but they still fell in the second round of the lower bracket against LGD Gaming without a best-of-three win.

The curse followed Abed to TI8 and TI9 with Fnatic, as they suffered early exits with losses in the first round of the lower bracket to Team Liquid and Team Secret, respectively.

Even after joining EG, a team with high expectations, Abed’s luck didn’t change at TI10. They stumbled against VG in the second round of the lower bracket, continuing the streak of disappointment.

The curse persisted in TI11, as EG exited at the same stage after a loss to Beastcoast. Even with a new sponsor, Shopify Rebellion, at TI12, the team still fell short, losing in the first round of the lower bracket to TSM.

Regardless of the team he’s on, Abed can’t seem to catch a break. Winning a best-of-three series in Dota 2 seems impossible for him during the most crucial moments. Now, with rumors swirling about a potential split, Abed’s disappointing performances alongside his long-standing teammates Arteezy, Cr1t, and Fly are under scrutiny.

As roster changes are on the horizon, all eyes are on Abed. The talented mid laner still has the potential to become the centerpiece of a new team and, if fortune favors him, break the long-standing curse that has haunted his career.
