Grubby’s Decision to Avoid Entering Dota 2 MMR Hell

Professional Warcraft III Player Grubby Takes on Dota 2

Manuel Schenkhuizen, known as Grubby in the esports world, has recently made the leap from Warcraft III to Dota 2. Having played games like Age of Empires and Starcraft in the past, Grubby decided to step into the challenging world of MOBAs. And he couldn’t be happier with his decision, stating that he regrets not starting the game earlier.

After retiring from the RTS esports scene over a decade ago, Grubby now streams full-time on Twitch. Currently, he is nearing the end of his A to Z challenge, where he plays through all the heroes in alphabetical order. This journey has led him to accumulate 100 hours of Dota 2 gameplay, and he was given the opportunity to calibrate his Matchmaking Rating (MMR) by playing ranked games.

Following 10 calibration matches, Grubby received the Herald V medal. The medal tiers progress from Herald to Immortal, with five levels within each tier, depending on MMR. Grubby started as Herald V and has since reached Guardian III. However, he encountered a losing streak along the way.

Despite the recent setbacks, Grubby remains resilient and determined. He refuses to be defeated or succumb to “MMR Hell.” Many professional Dota 2 players and personalities admire his positive spirit, which has garnered attention.

Although Grubby has only accumulated a few hundred hours in Dota 2, he acknowledges that this is just the beginning. Experienced Dota 2 players understand that there is much more to learn. However, Grubby feels that he is in a prime position to experiment before the game becomes more competitive.

With his previous experience in RTS games at the highest level and the guidance he has received from professional coaches, we are excited to see how far Grubby can go in Dota 2.
