Grubby and Slacks demonstrate the occasional efficacy of praying to Gaben in Dota 2

Grubby Makes Waves in Dota 2 Scene with Positive Attitude

Grubby, a popular streamer and professional player in RTS games, has recently made a name for himself in the Dota 2 community. Despite being primarily known for games like Age of Empires, Warcraft 3, and Starcraft 2, Grubby has brought his infectious positivity to Dota 2, attracting support from fellow players.

Renowned players such as two-time TI winner Ceb and former TI winner s4 have coached Grubby during his A to Z challenge on Twitch. This challenge involves playing all 123 heroes in Dota 2, helping Grubby refine his skills and find the best-suited hero for himself through ranked matchmaking. Alongside professional players, other notable figures from the Dota 2 scene have also stepped in to support and guide him.

One such personality is Jacob Kenner, also known as SirActionSlacks. Slacks has joined Grubby’s streams at different times, offering him guidance along his journey. While pro players and analysts provide serious technical assistance, Slacks’ sarcastic and meme-worthy nature, combined with his chaotic energy, makes him the perfect complement to Grubby.

The clip showcased here is from one of Grubby’s A to Z challenge streams, where he tries out Vengeful Spirit for the first time. Slacks, taking on the role of a coach, guides Grubby through the game as he plays support. Although their interpretations of the support role may differ, Slacks does his best to help Grubby.

At one point, Grubby comes across the Trusty Shovel neutral item, which can provide a Bounty rune, a Mango, or a Healing Salve when used. His team needed the Healing Salve the most. Recognizing the randomness of item drops, Slacks humorously suggests that Grubby prays to Lord Gaben, the humorous nickname for Dota 2’s creator, Gabe Newell. Surprisingly, after Grubby follows this advice, he successfully receives the much-needed Healing Salve.

While Gabe Newell may have no influence over Dota 2 gameplay, players often joke about his supposed intervention at critical moments. The game’s random number generation (RNG) can sometimes create imbalanced scenarios, with some players experiencing a flurry of critical strikes or bashes, while others face droughts. This incident serves as a lighthearted reminder of these jokes.

Now, we’re not saying that Gabe Newell is watching, but every Dota 2 player knows that sometimes luck favors the desperate. And this incident seems to be living proof of that.
