Gamers Without Borders 2020 Dota 2 Tournament Surpasses 2 Million Hours Watched Within 24 Hours

Gamers Without Borders’ Dota 2 Tournament Generates Impressive Viewership

Gamers Without Borders (GWP) recently hosted a three-day charity esports tournament, featuring eight of the top Dota 2 teams. The event garnered significant attention, with a total of 1.8 million hours watched over 23 hours of air time. This viewership surpasses other notable tournaments such as OGA Dota PIT 2020 Online: China and ESL One Los Angeles, proving the popularity of GWP’s inaugural Dota 2 event.

High Viewer Retention throughout the Tournament

Despite having only eight participating teams, the matches from the quarterfinals onwards maintained a high level of viewership. Each game averaged more than 100,000 viewers, with the quarterfinal match between OG and Nigma reaching a peak of 167,861 viewers. The finals, which featured Natus Vincere and Team Secret, attracted a peak viewership of 161,736.

A Successful Event with European and CIS Powerhouses

With the presence of the top European and CIS teams, GWP’s Dota 2 tournament achieved remarkable viewership. Both China and EU/CIS are known for their large Dota 2 fan base, which contributed to the success of the event. The organizers can use this experience and the data collected for future charity events in the Dota 2 scene.

Team Secret’s Victory and Generous Donations

Team Secret emerged as the champions of Gamers Without Borders 2020, securing a 3-0 victory against Na’Vi. In a heartfelt gesture, they donated their $750,000 prize money to two organizations. The Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, and The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement each received $375,000, exemplifying the spirit of giving in the esports community.
