Gambit Esports Triumphs Again at WePlay! Madness

WePlay! Dota 2 Valentine Madness: Gambit Esports Emerges as Champions

After a week of intense competition, the WePlay! Dota 2 Valentine Madness event concluded with Gambit Esports as the champions. This event featured familiar faces from previous tournaments, adding excitement to the grand finals.

Repeat Finalists: Gambit Esports and Ninjas In Pyjamas

Gambit Esports and Ninjas In Pyjamas, who also reached the finals in the WePlay! Dota 2 Winter Madness event in December, found themselves in the top three once again. The defending champions, Gambit Esports, clashed with Ninjas In Pyjamas in the third round of the winners bracket.

Heading into the match, Ninjas In Pyjamas had the upper hand, while Gambit faced a tough series against The Pango. However, behind the exceptional performance of their captain, Peter “ppd” Dager, Ninjas In Pyjamas secured a convincing victory.

After defeating Gambit, Ninjas In Pyjamas advanced and faced Natus Vincere, maintaining their undefeated record. The winner of the Na’Vi vs. Gambit match in the lower bracket would challenge them in the grand finals. Gambit defeated Alliance to earn another shot at the finals, but Na’Vi put up a strong fight.

It was a closely contested match between two of the best teams from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Despite Na’Vi’s initial dominance, Gambit gained momentum and emerged victorious, setting up a rematch with Ninjas In Pyjamas.

A Battle of Decisive Calls: The Grand Finals

The grand finals, a best-of-five rematch, showcased strategic decision-making and aggressive gameplay. In most rounds, the losing team struggled to reach double-digit kills, indicating their defensive stance against the opposing team’s advantage.

The first two games were quick 20-minute sprints, with each team winning one game. Gambit took the lead in game three and positioned themselves for victory in game four. Even extending the match to 35 minutes couldn’t change the outcome, as Gambit sealed the deal with a 30-15 kill/death advantage.

Both Gambit Esports and Ninjas In Pyjamas will now compete at ESL One Katowice from Feb. 19 to 24.
