Gaimin Gladiators Make History with Third Consecutive Major Win in Dota Pro Circuit

Gaimin Gladiators Make Dota 2 History with Clean Sweep Season

Gaimin Gladiators has made history in the Dota 2 competitive scene by becoming the first team in modern Dota Pro Circuit history to achieve a clean sweep of an entire season with three Major victories. They have also secured their third consecutive trophy by defeating Team Liquid in their third grand finals meeting, setting another record in the process.

Gaimin emerged as the team to beat in Dota’s strongest region, Western Europe, after a quick rebuild centered around Quinn, who was brought in from North America. Although they have not won any regional tours this year, they have proven nearly unstoppable at LAN events.

Their first Major victory came with a perfect playoff run in Lima, where they swept a depleted Liquid lineup with a 3-0 score. They continued their success in Berlin in May, securing their second consecutive title with almost undefeated performance, only dropping one game to Liquid in the playoffs.

Despite having already qualified for The International this year, Gaimin faced no pressure during the Bali Major. They approached the tournament with the same competitive fire and determination that defined their season.

When asked about their success, dyrachyo from Gaimin said, “We’re just enjoying the game. We are winning our games and will continue to do so. Our goal is to win every tournament and prepare with the same focus as we did before. We don’t dwell on historical records or any curses that may come with success.”

With three DPC Major titles and two DreamLeague wins in 2023, Gaimin has established their dominance. Four of their grand final victories came against Liquid. On this occasion, Liquid managed to win only one game, while Gaimin displayed excellent communication and timing throughout the series.

Although Gaimin’s clean sweep is historic, it’s worth mentioning that OG’s 2016 lineup won three Valve-sponsored Majors in a row before the introduction of the DPC in 2017. Additionally, Team Secret’s run in 2020 included eight consecutive tournament wins and set the best 100-game record in Dota history.

Gaimin still has a few upcoming tournaments to further solidify their dominance. They are set to compete at the Riyadh Masters 2022, starting on July 15, and will then focus on preparing for The International 12 in October. No team that has won a Major during a DPC season in the modern era has gone on to win The International—a curse that Gaimin seems determined to break.
