Gaimin Gladiators dominate Somnus in TI 2023 to guard against Dota 2 curse

Gaimin Gladiators Sweeps Somnus and Azure Ray to Advance in The International 2023

Gaimin Gladiators showcased their dominance in The International 2023’s lower bracket as they achieved their fourth consecutive victory, earning them a well-deserved win against Somnus and Azure Ray. This victory included their patented “Gaben Shellacking” technique, as coined by SUNSfan.

Gaimin Gladiators Triumph Over Team Liquid in a Thrilling Matchup

Engaging in their 12th game against their regional rivals, Team Liquid, Gaimin faced their first true challenge in the main event of TI12. With a remarkable 2-1 victory, Gaimin successfully eliminated Team Liquid from the tournament. Even though fans expected a neck-and-neck battle against a lineup of experienced Chinese players, Gaimin surprised everyone by securing a convincing 2-0 victory in under 46 minutes.

Gaimin’s Impressive Performance against AR

The first game witnessed Quinn’s outstanding skills on Pangolier, leading Gaimin to victory with an early 1-0 series lead. The second game showcased Gaimin’s superiority as they completely dominated AR, achieving a full team wipe in just over a minute. Ace’s Lone Druid landed three of the kills even before the pre-match interview with LaNm had concluded. With dyrachyo’s unstoppable Weaver causing chaos on AR’s side of the map, Gaimin quickly defeated the Chinese team.

Gaimin Inches Closer to Breaking TI Streaks

Gaimin’s triumph in this match brings them closer to shattering two long-standing TI streaks. However, lifting the Aegis will be necessary to fully erase these records. No team has ever won both a Major and TI in the same season since the Dota Pro Circuit began. PSG.LGD came closest to achieving this feat, having won the MDL Changsha Major and securing second place in TI8 and TI10.

Furthermore, no team has ever claimed the Aegis from the lower bracket. Gaimin has the opportunity to make history by accomplishing both feats and becoming the only team to complete a “Dota Grand Slam,” winning all four titles in a single year.

Despite their seemingly effortless victory so far, Seleri believes that Gaimin’s rough group stage and defeat by Talon Esports in the playoffs were valuable learning experiences. The team has grown and transformed as a result.

Now, their next challenge is to defeat LGD Gaming for a chance to face Team Spirit in the grand finals. Gaimin exudes confidence in their abilities to secure a spot in the grand finals, with Seleri stating, “Getting there will be the hardest. If we are [in the grand finals], we definitely aren’t losing.”
