The second Dota Pro Circuit Major of the 2018-19 season is almost here, and the qualifying tournaments are underway to determine the participants. From Jan. 19 to 27, 16 teams will compete for a share of $1 million and 15,000 DCP at the Chongqing Major. The teams are being finalized and will soon start preparing for the main event.
CIS and Southeast Asia qualifiers have already taken place and some familiar teams are set to travel to China. In the CIS region, the underdog team NoPangolier surprised everyone by defeating Virtus Pro and securing the top seed. On the other hand, Virtus Pro bounced back in the lower bracket and took the second spot by defeating Gambit Esports.
In the Southeast Asia qualifiers, Fnatic dominated their opponents and secured the first spot. TNC Predator and Mineski were the other strong contenders, but TNC managed to outlast them and secure the second spot.
After their victory, TNC’s management addressed the issue of racist remarks made by Carlo “Kuku” Palad during an event. Kuku will be fined 50% of his winnings from the Kuala Lumpur Major and either the Chongqing or Bucharest Major, while manager Paulo Sy will be fined 50% of one month’s salary. The fines will be donated to The International Movement Against All Forms of Discrimination and Racism.
The North American, European, South American, and Chinese qualifiers are yet to take place, leaving 11 spots for qualifying teams. The final spot will be filled by the winner of The Bucharest Minor, which will be held from Jan. 9 to 13.
