Brazilian Dota 2 Pro 444 Dies from COVID-19

Anderson Santos, a professional Dota 2 player from Brazil who was known by his gaming name “444” and recently played for paiN Gaming, has sadly passed away due to COVID-19, as announced by his former team.

A Prominent Figure in the Dota 2 Scene

444 gained recognition for his participation in tournaments like the EPICENTER Major 2019 and DreamLeague Season 13 while representing paiN Gaming. However, the organization disbanded its roster on April 9, 2020.

paiN Gaming expressed their gratitude to 444 for his contributions towards their Dota journey and mourned his untimely loss. They described him as an incredible person and an exceptional player. The team extended their condolences to his family and wished him eternal rest.

A Brave Battle against COVID-19

444 and three members of his family tested positive for COVID-19 last month, as reported by the Brazilian sports website Globo Esporte. Due to the lack of available ICU beds in Manaus, he split his recovery time between home and the hospital.

A Community Supportive of 444’s Recovery

The Dota 2 community came together to support 444’s family by raising approximately $1,200. The funds were used to purchase necessary medication and cover treatment costs. Slow signs of improvement in his overall health were observed, thanks to the assistance of oxygen cylinders and medical equipment.

A Tragic Turn of Events

Unfortunately, 444’s breathing difficulties worsened, leading to his admission to the ICU. Tragically, he succumbed to the illness and passed away.

A Loss Felt by Many

Rodrigo Santos, former paiN player, expressed his sorrow and paid tribute to 444. He described him as a humble and charismatic person and bid him farewell.
