Febby, Beastcoast Issue Statements Regarding K1’s Use of Racial Slur in Dota 2 Public Matches

Pub Game Incident: Dota 2 Player Uses Racial Slur

Dota 2 pub games are known for their toxicity, and recently, beastcoast’s Héctor “K1” Rodríguez used a racial slur against Kim “Febby” Yong-min.

This incident occurred during a pub game on July 11 and came to light after clips from Febby’s stream were shared on Reddit.

Febby stated that he wasn’t too bothered by the slur in the moment, as toxicity is unfortunately common in Dota, especially between teammates. He did, however, receive a “sincere apology” from K1 in private. Febby hopes that this incident will serve as a learning experience for the community and encourage a reduction in toxicity moving forward.

Febby took this opportunity to address the Dota community, urging players to treat their teammates better. He emphasized that there’s no need to create more enemies within your own team.

“I’ve been playing less Dota and more VALORANT just because of the people. People in Dota talk in a way that you just wanna punch them…” Febby expressed his frustration.

Even before Febby spoke out, other prominent members of the Dota community, such as David “GoDz” Parker, voiced their concerns and called for disciplinary action against K1. The Dota Pro Circuit has specific guidelines that players must follow, both in professional matches and pub games.

Beastcoast has released a statement acknowledging the incident and taking it seriously. The organization does not tolerate derogatory speech and is implementing the necessary disciplinary actions. They are committed to educating their players and promoting a more inclusive esports industry.

No specific disciplinary action has been announced against K1 thus far. Unless Valve intervenes, it is unlikely to affect beastcoast’s participation in the DPC Summer Tour and the upcoming Arlington Major.
