Evil Geniuses narrowly escape Team Liquid’s threat at DreamLeague Leipzig Major

Evil Geniuses Secure Upper Bracket Berth in Epic Battle Against Team Liquid

Evil Geniuses (EG) emerged victorious in a thrilling clash against Team Liquid to secure the final upper bracket spot in Group D at the Dota 2 DreamLeague Leipzig Major. The series went the distance, with EG ultimately winning 2-1.

EG faced tough challenges throughout the series, as both their wins in games one and three were hard-fought battles where Liquid maintained an early lead. However, EG’s resilience and determination shone through, allowing them to come out on top.

In the first game, Liquid opted for Alchemist and Ember Spirit to increase the pace of the game. EG countered with a strong team-fighting lineup featuring Naga Siren and Disruptor. Despite Liquid’s initial lead in gold, EG turned the tides with some well-executed Song of the Siren plays.

Game two saw Liquid once again prioritize speed, this time with a Lone Druid to demolish structures. EG’s late-game focus with Morphling and Outworld Devourer couldn’t withstand Liquid’s overwhelming power.

In the third game, Liquid took an early lead, with Michael “miCKe” Vu’s Venomancer dominating EG’s counterpick in the offlane. However, EG’s Abed Yusop’s outstanding performance on Templar Assassin in the late stages of the game turned the tide in their favor, securing them a spot in the upper bracket.

EG’s path to the main event was a challenging one, playing a total of eight out of nine possible games. Their hard work paid off as they earned an upper bracket spot, while Liquid will have to fight for survival in the lower bracket in a best-of-one matchup.

EG has shown consistent improvement since their roster changes, placing fourth at the MDL Chengdu Major and finishing as runners-up at the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore. With their last premier event victory dating back to the DOTA Summit Nine in 2018, EG is hungry for success and hopes to end their trophy drought at the Leipzig Major.

On the other hand, Liquid’s 10-game win streak in the Leipzig Major qualifiers was swiftly halted once they entered the LAN tournament. Although they’ve showcased their skill and teamwork in some impressive games, their unpredictable draft choices have hindered their success. If they can address their drafting issues before the main event, Liquid remains a formidable opponent.
